SODACAL prawn farm which was set up as a pilot farm for the development of a prawn industry in New Caledonia, saw its production exponentially rise from 1984 to 1992 (to 400 t/year, then experienced a sharp drop in 1993 (250 t/year) which carried on until 1997, and finally rose back to a stabilizing level around 400 t/year until 1999. The study analyses the difficulties observed before and during the drop of production. Among them, mortality outbreaks, other biological perturbations (benthic mat clearing and crab and fish mortality) and focus on the noxious state of the bottom (reduced and smelling sulfide hydrogen). The ZoNeCo programme is devoted to the evaluation of the marine resources of the Economic Zone of New Caledonia. The results are essentially dependent on the quality of the seafloor mapping. From 1993 to 1996, four geological and geophysical surveys using the EM12 DUAL multibeam echosounder provided swath-mapping and acoustic imagery data of the seafloor of selected sites on the northern and southern parts of the Norfolk ridge, the Loyalty basin, around the Loyalty islands and in the westernmost part of the Economic Zone of New Caledonia. The accuracy of these documents shows the morphology of the seafloor in detail and allows rocky substratum to be differentiated from muddy bottom. The purpose of the current PhD work is to deepen our understanding of the history of the New Caledonia and Fairway basins, located west of New Caledonia, in order to better constrain the geodynamical evolution of the SW Pacific from Cretaceous to Oligocene. The analysis of new geophysical data has led to distinguish 3 main phases of this fragmentation: 1 Mid Cretaceous formation of the Fairway-Aotea Basin in a continental intra-arc position. The influence of the soil quality of culture pond on the physiological state of Penaeus stylirostris reared in earthen shrimp pond in New Caledonia was investigated by the measurement of the osmoregulatory capacity and magnesium hemolymph concentration of samples of 20 of these shrimp captured in the pond and maintained for 24 or 48h in cages laid on the bottom. A first experiment was affected by the occurrence of a pathology caused by Vibrio penaeicida probably due to initial handling stress. The second experiment showed that the osmoregulatory capacity is depresssed as a function of the soil quality : the more it is reduced the more the depression is important. The ZoNeCo programme, devoted to the evaluation of living and non-living marine resources within the Economic Zone of New Caledonia, illustrates clearly the Marine Benthic Habitats concept. It exhibits the study of the physical environment and disciplines such as geology and physical oceanography. The results acquired in these fields are used as bases to study the presence and the distribution of living species within a given habitat. The knowledge of all the parameters relative to each discipline is a useful guide for the evaluation and the sustainable management of living and nonliving resources. La mission effectuée du 13 mai au 7 juin 90 à l'écloserie de la ferme Sodacal en Nouvelle-Calédonie avait pour but de tester les aqua-plakR pour les comptages bactériens en routine dans une écloserie industrielle. La technique classique (comptage sur boite de Pétri) est en effet très peu utilisée par les éleveurs du fait de sa lourdeur alors qu'une bonne connaissance de l'évolution de la flore bactérienne dans les bacs d'élevages peut s'avérer nécessaire pour assurer une gestion sanitaire correcte de ces élevages. D'autre part, une collection la plus large possible des différentes souches bactériennes rencontrées a été réalisée.
